A New Discovery. Exceptional Carte de Visite (CDV) of
Lowell Team baseball player in uniform. Approximately 132 years old. There is some
light soiling on the albumen photo, but the CDV was preserved very well.
Measures 2-1/2" x 4-1/8".
The photo is of Bill
Hawes who played for the 1877 and 1878 Lowell Team. Research
shows that this would also match up with the pencil notations on the back of the
CDV. More information on Bill Hawes statistics can be found at baseball-reference, and his bio on SABR. In 1879, Hawes played for Harry Wright's Boston club team (National
League). For reference, a photo of the 1879 Boston Team has been added to
this lot (from 19cbaseball.com).
Please note that the photo is confirmed to be Bill Hawes (on 6/28 7 AM). In the third photo of Harry Wright's Boston club team the arrow was moved (on 6/28 2:45AM) to a new location based on information that the correct location of Bill Hawes is to the left of Harry Wright.
